My autumn photography excursion was to the Eastern Sierra and Yosemite National Park. The snow-capped Eastern Sierra comprises the remote east side of the Sierra Nevada Mountain Range in California. The Sierra runs 400 miles north-to-south, and is approximately 70 miles across east-to-west. Notable Sierra features include Lake Tahoe, the largest alpine lake in North America; Mount Whitney at 14,505 ft, the highest point in the contiguous United States; and Yosemite Valley, sculpted by glaciers from one-hundred-million-year-old granite. In fact, the entire range has been shaped by its geology – granite formed deep underground more than 100 million years ago started to uplift 4 millions years ago. Erosion by glaciers exposed the granite and light-colored mountains and cliffs. The iconic Tunnel view in Yosemite is a classic U-shaped valley carved by retreating glaciers.
I’ve started the galley with images from Yosemite National Park and finished it with images from the Eastern Sierra.
