One of the surprises of photographing Glacier National Park during the Reynolds Creek Fire was this rare red sun! Usually after the sun has cleared the horizon the brightness of the fire ball prevents seeing the outline of the sun – it is just a large golden glow in camera viewfinders and prints. But on this morning with heavy smoke settled into the valley adjacent to the fire the outline of the sun can be clearly seen as well as it taking on this red color. The smoke also prevented the sun’s rays from striking the land – little would you suspect that the sun has already risen.
