Newfoundland — YAY! It seems every few years I head to a Canadian Maritime Province seeking photography opportunities, and in 2019 I headed to Newfoundland. In hindsight, I regret choosing May-June time frame for this trip. As with Nova Scotia, nearly every day was overcast, sometimes foggy, sometimes rainy, but just not sunny. However, the May departure was needed to be able to see and photograph icebergs along the coast. Although I have very few “fine art” photographs from this trip, with the help of Photoshop I was able to turn some of those gray skies in the north of Newfoundland slightly blue, so don’t be fooled. I was also surprised at how cold it was — below 50°F, sometimes much below…. And windy! I wore multiple layers, my heavy winter coat, and still needed hand and toe warmers! The trees in the furthest north islands, near Twillingate, Change and Fogo Islands, and even Bonavista, were bare of leaves. Only as we traveled south toward the airport in Deer Lake did the white birch trees have newly sprouted spring leaves — in June!
The details of the trip with photos are in a new blog post called – Newfoundland – please check it out!
