Dusk on the River Liffey

Just a few hours ago I participated in a Dusk Photography shoot led by Dave McKane of the Institute of Photography in Dublin. I was delighted that this shoot was along the River Liffey in Dublin. I have a few more images that I am happy with, but just wanted to share this one right away. Technical Details: Canon EOS 40D, Sigma 10-20mm wide angle lens at 20mm, f/20 for 6 seconds, with a tripod.

Along the River Liffey in Dublin at Dusk

  1. Great dusk shot. Did you use any kind of filter?

    1. Hi Ron! Sorry for the delay in response and thanks for the great question! I didn’t use a filter. I was ready for the blue moment when I saw the stacking of the lamp posts and thought it would make a nice composition. The blue moment was showing up in the eastern sky, but not quite to that point in this direction. Yet it still required a six second exposure. I wanted the headlight trail to continue down the road toward me, but there was never enough traffic to fill in the entire length within that six seconds and gave up after about 4 tries in order to capture the blue moment on a bridge. Thanks! Debbie.

      1. Wonder why the second lamppost has the star pattern? Great shot, BTW.

        1. That was fast! The star pattern is from a different type of lamp or perhaps a light on the building that is further into the scene, although it would appear to be the second lamppost by the spacing. Star patterns can be captured with apertures of f/16 or smaller (bigger number). None of the lamps with a top cover to them created star patterns in this photo. Thanks again for the question and kudos!
